The Baltimore Ravens have announced today that they have released quarterback Keith Wenning and tight end Phillip Supernaw. This comes as a surprise because Wenning was a sixth-round pick last season and had high potential.
Wenning’s fate may have been decided already when the Ravens signed Matt Schaub to be their backup quarterback. Supernaw had two receptions for the Ravens last season and was on and off the 53-man roster. The Ravens drafted two tight ends, Maxx Williams and Nick Boyles in the draft so Supernaw became expendable. The Ravens have four tight ends in Dennis Pitta, Crockett Gillmore, Williams and Boyles.
These two players may still have a future with the Ravens. I think Wenning could still be a good backup quarterback.
